Privacy policy

Effective October 19, 2026

EV Readiness Check runs evreadinesscheck.com, a free tool that checks how well an electric vehicle fits your driving and charging. We’re based in Chicago, Illinois, USA. Questions about this policy: hello@evreadinesscheck.com.

The short version

  • You can get your score without an account, a name or an email.
  • We never sell your personal information. The EV associations and utilities that offer the check to their members see totals only, never your individual answers.
  • If you give us your email, we use it to send what you asked for. Tips only if you tick the box for them, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
  • Stripe handles payments. We never see or store your card number.
  • We use Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel to understand how the site is used and to measure our ads. You can opt out.
  • To see or delete what we hold about you, email hello@evreadinesscheck.com.

What we collect

Your answers to the check. How far you drive, where and how long you can plug in, your parking, your state or province, the EV you’re considering, and (if you give it) your ZIP or postal code. We use them to calculate your result. They’re kept in your browser so your result stays on screen. When you finish the check, we also record your answers and result, without your name or email, to understand how the tool is used and to improve it.

Your name and email, if you ask us to email your result. We use them to send that email. If you tick “Email me occasional EV charging tips and what my result means”, we may also send occasional tips; every one has an unsubscribe link. Your browser remembers your name and email on your device so you don’t have to type them again.

If you buy the EV Readiness Pass. Stripe, our payment processor, collects your email and payment details at checkout. We receive your email and a payment reference from Stripe, never your card number. To unlock the Pass we store a scrambled (hashed) form of your email, a code for your saved answers, the Pass’s expiry date and the payment reference. We don’t store your email in readable form. We email you your full report; the PDFs we create contain no name, email or ZIP code. If you save scenarios or re-check during your Pass, we store those answers (no name or email) so you can compare them.

Things you send us. If you use the contact form, the feedback form or our short “where did you hear about us?” question, we receive what you write and, for the contact form, your name and email.

Information collected automatically. Pages viewed, buttons used, your result type and score, your device and browser type, an approximate location based on your IP address, and how you reached us (for example a link or an ad). Your browser also keeps a random ID so we can tell when a result is viewed again. It isn’t linked to your name or email.

Share links. “Share this result” creates a link that contains your answers and result, so anyone you send it to can see them. It doesn’t contain your name or email. Share it only with people you’re comfortable showing your answers to.

How we use it

  • To calculate and show your result, and send the emails you ask for.
  • To provide the Pass: unlock it on your devices, send your report and handle refunds.
  • To send occasional tips, only if you opted in.
  • To understand how the tool is used, fix problems and improve the calculations.
  • To measure whether our ads work.
  • To give partner organizations totals only, such as how many of their members finished the check and how the results break down. Never who said what, and never names or emails.
  • To meet legal obligations, such as keeping records of purchases.

We may also disclose information when the law requires it or to protect our rights or our users’ safety. If the business is ever sold or transferred, this information would go with it, still covered by this policy.

Cookies and analytics

Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel set cookies or similar identifiers in your browser. We also use your browser’s storage to keep your result on screen, remember your name and email if you entered them, and remember settings such as miles or kilometres.

How long we keep it

  • Check records without contact details: up to 2 years. Google Analytics keeps detailed event data for up to 14 months.
  • Your name and email for emails you asked for or opted into: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
  • Pass records: while your Pass is active and up to 3 years after, for refunds and our records.
  • Payment records at Stripe: as long as Stripe and tax law require.
  • Messages you send us: up to 2 years.

Your choices and rights

  • Unsubscribe with the link in any email, or write to us.
  • See, correct or delete your information: email hello@evreadinesscheck.com from the address you used. We’ll reply within 30 days and may ask you to confirm the request comes from you.
  • California residents have the right to know, delete and correct their personal information and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We don't sell personal information. To opt out of ad measurement, use the choices under "Cookies and analytics" or email us. We won't treat you differently for using these rights.
  • Canadian residents can access and correct their personal information and withdraw consent under Canadian privacy law.
  • Wherever you live, email us and we'll help.

Security

We use reasonable safeguards: the site runs over HTTPS, payment details stay with Stripe, emails are stored only in scrambled form in our Pass database, and the keys that run the site are kept out of its public code. No system is perfectly secure; if something happens that affects you, we’ll tell you as the law requires.

Children

The check is for adults choosing a car and isn’t directed at children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect children’s information. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we’ll delete it.

Where your information is processed

We and our service providers are mainly in the United States, so your information may be processed there even if you live elsewhere, including Canada.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. If the changes are significant, we’ll say so on the site.
